Ferrero Storms To Stockholm Title

Juan Carlos Ferrero picked up his second ATP Champions Tour title on Friday at Kings of Tennis by Index Residence, storming to a 6-2, 6-4 victory over local favourite Jonas Bjorkman in Stockholm.
Looking fit and producing backhands that rivaled his peak days on the ATP World Tour, Ferrero continued to make Bjorkman dig up low volleys before rifling passing shot winners past the Swede. Although Bjorkman got the crowd involved by putting up more of a fight in the second set, the former World No. 1 remained in control to become the last man standing in Stockholm.
“It was amazing to play here this week against such a great field and of course to play the final against Jonas in front of a lively home crowd was a lot of fun,” said Ferrero. “I hope I can return next year!
The Spaniard dropped just 10 games in taking the title, scoring another convincing victory on Thursday over reigning Champions Tennis winner Fabrice Santoro. He has prevailed in two of the three Champions Tour events he’s played in, also winning last October at Titans Challenge in Mexico City
The 400 points Ferrero picks up for winning this event also puts him at the top of the ATP Champions Tour rankings. Bjorkman earns 300 points, putting him in a four-way tie for third place with James Blake, Fernando Gonzalez and Mardy Fish.
