Situated in the European half of the city, Thrace, on the Western bank on the Bosphorus, The TED Club is a sporting haven in the centre of Istanbul. The club boasts not only superb tennis facilities, but also world standard fencing and mountaineering squads.
In its maiden year in 2008, tournament director Bekir Emre ensured that all of the players and spectators at the Turkcell Legends Cup received the warmest of welcomes. Players were treated to an evening dinner cruise on the Bosphorus to take in the sights of the city, while crowds were treated to some truly scintillating tennis. Goran Ivanisevic defeated Fernando Meligeni in the final.
As well as hosting the tournament, Istanbul is home to three famous football clubs - Galatasaray, Fenerbahce and Beskitas. Though not the country’s capital, Istanbul is the largest city in Turkey, and the fourth largest city in the world, with a population of 13 million. The city is divided by the Bosphorus Strait, with one half of the city, Thrace, lying in Europe and the other, Anatolia, in Asia. It is the only city in the world situated in two continents.
In the month of June, average temperatures range from 22-26 degrees Centigrade, with little rainfall, although later in the Summer temperatures can reach a high of 40 degrees.
