Former World No. 2 Goran Ivanisevic talks to ATPChampionsTour.com ahead of competing at the Abierto GNP Seguros in Monterrey, Mexico from 5-8 October. The popular 2001 Wimbledon champion reveals ‘The Last Time’…

I missed a flight?
It’s only because I had bad coffee at the airport, but I missed a flight to Los Angeles last year. I was really late.

I lost something important?
I’m really bad, but the most important thing has probably been losing money from my pocket. $100 bills. I do have a wallet, but I keep losing money from my pocket.

I paid money to rent a tennis court or buy tennis balls?
It was quite recently actually in Split, as I was playing with my son and I needed to buy some tennis balls.

Being famous helped me?
If I need to get a table in a restaurant, I normally can do so in Croatia or London.

I strung a tennis racquet?
Wow! That must have been 35 years ago. I was awful and have never done so since. I missed out a couple of strings. At the start of my pro career in 1988, I had my racquets strung at 24/23kg, then 27/26kg and finally at the end at 28/27kg.

I cooked for myself and others?
I’m not at all good. I can do eggs. Can we sneak that in as cooking…?

I met a childhood idol?
I met Argentinean footballer Diego Maradona in the 1990s, I forget where, and then again in the 2012 World Group quarter-finals when Croatia played in the final in Buenos Aires.

I shared a hotel room with another player?
I really cannot remember, although it was probably the late 1980s or early 1990s.

I asked someone famous for an autograph or selfie?
That’s easier as I purchased a big tennis balls, that kids normally have for autographs, at Monte-Carlo in April and went around the players’ lounge and locker room getting everyone to sign it.

Ivanisevic with compete alongside Thomas Muster, Fabrice Santoro, Greg Rusedski and two local wild cards at next month’s Abierto GNP Seguros in Monterrey, Mexico.
