ATP Champions Tour Launches New Website

With the first event of the year set to start in Barcelona on Thursday, the ATP Champions Tour has launched its new, official website.

The site features a fresh design, more player and tournament information than ever before, and a new interactive FanZone where fans can send questions to their favourite champions, access exclusive video and audio, and test their knowledge of the Champions in a special Quiz.

For the first time, you can also read exclusive Blogs and follow us on Twitter, with tweets from the players during tournaments as well as regular gossip, opinions and tennis chat throughout the year. Everything you could want to know about the Champions Cup '09 in Barcelona (16-19 April) can be found in Events, such as player field (when available), the Roll of Honour and a guide to the city where the tournament is hosted. Every event profile also contains a list of interesting facts about the tournament to inform and entertain you. In the Barcelona profile page for instance, find out which two-time French Open champion failed to win his home-town event during his career but then made up for lost time on the ATP Champions Tour, the name of the Barcelona finalist that is now the agent of one of the world’s most famous players, and which runner-up is most famous for beating Bjorn Borg on his comeback in 1991.

The Players section features a new, expanded profile page for every ATP Champions Tour player. In player profiles, you can find out facts and figures about the players, such as how many matches Borg played during his career, the clay-court win-loss record of Thomas Muster, and how many match-wins Pete Sampras accumulated on his way to 14 Grand Slam titles. A full, freshly-written career biography of each player will take you down memory-lane and detail how each player became a champion. In the ‘Did You Know’ section of each player’s profile, you will find nuggets of fascinating trivia. Which ATP Champions Tour player writes his own poetry? Who is addicted to British comedy shows? And which one is a qualified Reiki healer? It’s all there, and more.

In the Tour section, you can access ATP Champions Tour Rules, read a fascinating History of the circuit and discover what happened on the Tour in 2008. In Rules, you can find out how many points are required to win a Champions’ Tie-Break, what makes a player eligible to play on the circuit, and who goes through to the final in the round-robin system if two players have both won two matches and lost one. In History, take a trip down memory lane and read our year-by-year overview of the ATP Champions Tour since 1997. There you can discover what happened when Bjorn Borg faced John McEnroe in a match in London for the first time in 16 years, why Henri Leconte was happy just to get out of Dublin alive in 2000 and which player ended the 25-match winning streak of Marcelo Rios in 2006.
