Champions' Preview of Barclays ATP World Tour Finals '09

The Barclays ATP World Tour Finals is the tennis season ending finale, guaranteeing the ultimate competitive showdown, to determine the official ATP World Tour Champion Player of the year. Only the best eight singles players and best eight doubles teams of the year will qualify to be play in the O2 arena in London from 22 to 29 November 2009.

Here is an exclusive preview of the event from the stars of the ATP Champions Tour.

  • “It’s difficult to pick anyone but Federer to win the World Tour Finals. Experience tells you never to bet against him so I won’t be. For Murray I think the event will be a similar situation to Wimbledon. It may be a boost for him that he’s playing in the UK but it will also mean a lot of pressure on his shoulders. Overall it is positive being able to play at home though and I really hope he does well.”

  • “The O2 is a beautiful arena. It’s huge, it has a great atmosphere and I think we’re going to see some great tennis. If was going to be safe then I’d pick Roger Federer to win but I would like to see Andy Murray to win that tournament. He’s playing at home, he’s a great tennis player and he needs a big tournament win. Hopefully there will be a bit less pressure on him than at Wimbledon because I like his attitude on the court and tennis-wise, he is ready. I really think he can do it.”

  • “Murray is going to win a Grand Slam, it could happen at any time. He’s comfortable on most surfaces and he’s a fantastic player. It’s just a matter of if he can deal with the pressure of playing in the UK. I know the Brits want him to win more than anything so it’s whether he can control those nerves and believe in himself. He’s such a great player and a great athlete. He’s just the complete package.”.
