Champions Arrive in London
The ATP Champions Tour arrives in London on Tuesday for the AEGON Masters Tennis at the Royal Albert Hall.
Since 1997, the most iconic arena on the planet has played host to many of the greatest tennis players the world has seen, and this year will be no different.
The headline story is the return of Pat Rafter to London for the first time since the Wimbledon final that he so memorably played in 2001.
He will come face to face with his nemesis Goran Ivanisevic again, and also, for the first time in his career, fellow Australian Pat Cash. Group A is completed by defending champion Cedric Pioline, ensuring a thrilling week ahead.
Group B features the return of Mark Philippoussis to the city that he so nearly conquered in 2003. The towering Australian known as 'Scud' for the power of his serve, will take on two-time Wimbledon champion Stefan Edberg, Britain's Greg Rusedski and another ATP Champions Tour newcomer, Younes El Aynaoui of Morocco.
The players arrived in London on Monday, and Rafter and Cash immediately hit the practice court ahead of their opening round-robin clashes. Cash will face Pioline on Tuesday evening, while Rafter is due to face the Frenchman in the Wednesday night session. The Rafter vs. Ivanisevic clash is scheduled for Saturday afternoon.
The tournament will kick-start on Tuesday with Edberg up against El Aynoui. A full doubles programme scheduled for the week, so the singles match on Tuesday afternoon will be followed by the ever popular Mansour Bahrami with Jeremy Bates against Peter McNamara and Mark Woodforde. After that it's the return of the the Jensen brothers, Luke and Murphy, against Mikael Pernfors and Henri Leconte.
