Unstoppable Enqvist Wins Fourth Title And Maintains 100% Record in Bogota

Thomas Enqvist continued his incredible run on the ATP Champions Tour as he collected his fourth title and his 16th straight match-win to maintain his 100% record since joining the circuit last year.

The Swede's 7-6, 6-4 victory again Wayne Ferreira in the final of the Seguros Bolivar Champions Tennis in Bogota was particularly satisfying against an opponent that had won six of the seven matches they had played on the ATP World Tour.

“I’m really happy,” said Enqvist. “All the players here have had a fantastic week and we’ve really enjoyed ourselves. The crowd has been great all week and today it was packed again which is great to play in front of. I think the key to me winning today was my serve. It was just a point here and there that decided the match so I’m very happy that I was able to hold my serve so well today. That’s what made the difference when things got tight out there.”

Can anyone beat him?

“I’m certainly not feeling unbeatable but I am happy to have such a good record so far," said Enqvist. "I don’t think about the run I’m on too much to be honest, I just try to have fun and enjoy every tournament and play the best tennis I can. Winning is fun too though.”

For Ferreira, losing was not part of the plan, but overall it was only a minor irritation after a good week at a new tournament.

“It’s been a wonderful experience being here in Colombia even though I didn’t win today,” he said. “I always like to go to new places and see new things and I’ve loved every minute of being in Bogota. I’ve made some great friends this week and had some great times so the result today doesn’t spoil that.”

In the match to decide third and fourth places in the Seguros Bolivar Champions Tennis, Yevgeny Kafelnikov put an end to the magnificent run of home favourite Mauricio Hadad. Kafelnikov triumphed 6-4, 6-4 over the Colombian in a closely-fought, typical clay court encounter. Taking third place in the tournament means that Kafelnikov moves up to sixth place in the South African Airways rankings.
