Goran Predicts Enqvist Demise At Last

Goran Ivanisevic has promised to be the first player to beat Thomas Enqvist since the Swede joined the ATP Champions Tour when they face off in the Barcelona final on Sunday.

Ivanisevic squeezed past two-time French Open champion Sergi Bruguera 6-7(3), 6-3, 10-8 on Saturday, while Enqvist just about maintained his unbeaten record on the Tour with a 4-6, 6-4, 11-9 win against Wayne Ferreira.

Ivanisevic is confident that the Swede's 100% record will come to an end.

"This is going to be the one he loses," said Ivanisevic. "He has to lose some time and I'm feeling fit and playing well. I'm really looking forward to the final and having my chance to beat him."

Ahead of the final, the head-to-head record favours Enqvist. The Swede won five of the eight contests between himself and the Croatian, although Ivanisevic won the three most tussles between the two. None of their clashes were played on clay.

Since joining the ATP Champions Tour, Enqvist has won all four of the tournaments that he has contested, and 17 successive matches.

"There is a chance that this will be the day that I lose because Goran is playing so well," said Enqvist. "I'm not putting pressure on myself though, it's just nice to be in the final."

The final will start at 1pm local time, followed by the third place play-off between Juan Balcells and Ferreira.

Barcelona is the fourth of ten stops on the ATP Champions Tour, which culminates with a season-ending AEGON Masters event at London’s Royal Albert Hall from 30th November to 5th December. The season began in February in Delray Beach, where Pat Rafter beat John McEnroe in the final. At the second event in Zurich in March, Stefan Edberg overcame Goran Ivanisevic in three sets. The most recent event saw Thomas Enqvist beat Wayne Ferreira in the final in Bogotá, having swept through the tournament without the loss of a set. After Barcelona, the tour will also call in at Sao Paulo, Brasil, followed by events in Graz (Austria), Algarve (Portugal), Paris (France) and London (UK).
